While this Web site has plenty of resources such as The Be In Charge® Program that can help you get through treatment, it's also helpful to establish your own support network of family and friends to help you through the challenges. Consider these suggestions to build your own support network:
- Write down what you think could possibly become the biggest obstacles to you starting treatment, and/or finishing treatment. Is it money? Time? Family responsibilities? Getting to work?
- Match up those needs with individuals you think are able to help you the most. Identify the team of people who will be on your side from the time you start treatment until you finish, and will be there for you for a few months following the end of your treatment.
- If you haven't started treatment yet, begin planning for how your life will change, and how the lives of those closest to you will be impacted. See "Balancing Work & Family".
- Stay focused on being positive and surround yourself with others who are positive. Even though you are often a support person for others, keep in mind that your health is the most important thing now and this not the time to take on the challenges others are facing. Get healthy first.
- There are many support groups and online resources that can help. Ask your doctor or other health care professional about local programs. The Be In Charge® Program can provide you with a list of hotlines, special help for minority groups, and other professional organizations.
- Call Be In Charge® when you feel you need emotional support, or if you have treatment related questions.
